Police have arrested a senior civil servant on suspicion of misconduct in public office and fraud by abuse of position.
The arrest stems from an ongoing investigation in which three local men were arrested last Friday over allegations of conspiracy to defraud a local company and several computer misuse offences.
“On the basis of information presented by the Royal Gibraltar Police, the office of the Chief Secretary asked that the matter be fully investigated,” the RGP said in a statement issued tonight.
The civil servant has been granted police bail without charge while the investigations continue.
The three local men had already been released last Friday on police bail without charge.
“The investigation continues with the assistance of officers from the Cyber Crime Unit at the National Crime Agency UK,” the RGP statement added.
