Pro-life group sets out stance on abortion after meeting CM

The Gibraltar Pro-Life Movement Caretaker Committee met with the Chief Minister Fabian Picardo and the Minister for Health Neil Costa to explain their work in relation to the ongoing debate on the question of abortion.

The GPLM is based on the principle that “both lives matter”, that of mother and child, and considers that the termination of the life of a child should only be contemplated in the most exceptional of circumstances.

The GLPM informed Mr Picardo and Mr Costa of the work they have been doing in terms of setting up support systems for women facing difficulties.

They shared their links with other pro-life organisations such as ‘Life UK’ and ‘Rachel’s Vineyard’ and are confident that they will be able to put in place these support structures in short order.

The members said a proper legislative effort must be made involving consultation, submission by candidates for election of their positions to the electorate and then the usual process of legislative and parliamentary debate.

They added that the issue is “far too complex and important to be consigned to the kind of simplistic box-ticking exercise which is a referendum”.

The GPLM says it has received widespread unsolicited support from entities in the United States and the United Kingdom, with whom they will be working closely.

Anyone interested in joining the GPLM can do so by contacting them via their Facebook page or emailing them at gibraltarprolifemovement@gmail.com.
