Gibraltar backs Cameron in lead-up to EU referendum

Gibraltar’s political leaders yesterday reaffirmed their pledge to campaign for Britain to remain in the European Union, vowing to back UK Prime Minister David Cameron ahead of the June 23 referendum.

Chief Minister Fabian Picardo, the leader of the GSLP, said there was “no reasonable alternative” for Gibraltar to the certainty of EU membership hand in hand with the UK.

The message was echoed by deputy Chief Minister Dr Joseph Garcia, the leader of the Liberal Party, who is in Brussels this week lobbying to ensure Gibraltar remains prominent in the minds of European policy makers.

On the Opposition bench, GSD leader Daniel Feetham welcomed the deal struck by Mr Cameron last week and said he would campaign alongside the GSLP/Liberals to keep Britain within the EU.
