The GSD has today welcomed the deal negotiated by the UK with other European states and said it would campaign alongside the Gibraltar Government for Britain to remain within the EU.
The GSD said it had followed developments very closely and welcomed the fact that David Cameron had called a referendum for June 23.
“It is important for the sake of certainty for the referendum to take place as soon as possible,” the Opposition said in a statement.
“The deal negotiated by David Cameron is a good for Britain and good for Gibraltar.”
“The GSD has today congratulated David Cameron on the deal he has secured for Britain and stands ready alongside the Government of Gibraltar to support the ‘In’ campaign.”
“Working together, as has been advocated by Leader of the Opposition Daniel Feetham for the past three years, is clearly in the best interest of Gibraltar and that remains the position of the GSD.”
“Gibraltar must speak with one voice and work together on this subject.”
Opposition leader Daniel Feetham tweeted:
Deal negotiated by @David_Cameron is good for Britain & good for Gibraltar. GSD ready to work with Govt to lend support to stay in campaign.
