European Athletics urges Gib bids for international competitions

The President of the European Athletics Executive Board has encouraged Gibraltar to bid to host the European Athletics Team Third League and the Youth Championships.

Svein Arne Hansen, European Athletics President, made the comments in response to questions from this newspaper in a press conference at the Sunborn Hotel on Tuesday.

“You have a very good stadium and very good people in athletics. The Island Games is also great for Gibraltar,” he said. “Gibraltar can be proud of its federation and I have always tried to help you politically. I think that you should be aiming to host the third league or youth championships, but you also have the potential of hosting more meetings.”

Frank Carreras, President of the Gibraltar Amateur Athletics Association and the Athletic Association of Small States of Europe (AASSE), said that Gibraltar would love to host a competition of this stature.
